Transportation of SIEMENS Transformers for CEB

Aitken Spence Logistics was entrusted by SIEMENS with the task of transporting and handling seven heavy transformers, each weighing 97 Tons for the Habarana Power Plant of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

To facilitate the out-of-gauge handling requirements during transportation of heavy transformers from Port of Trincomalee to Habarana project site, Aitken Spence Logistics invested in a brand new multi-axle trailer which was specially customized to handle the cargo by adjusting the trailer height to a minimum traveling height of three feet, which provided the client with multiple means of cost advantages.

The trailer was able to travel through low-hanging power and telecommunication lines and bridges with lower clearance and saved the time and cost required for route optimization.

The multi-axle trailer also consisted of two power packs enabling it to operate as 02 independent units handling parallel operations at a given time which helped us to fast-track the operations to reduce vessel idle time at berth.
