Weighbridge Facilities

As an export facilitation service, Aitken Spence logistics operates three weighbridges in compliance with the requirement by the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to declare the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of all containers loaded onboard ships.

Our weighbridge facilities are strategically located at;

  • Mabole – Aitken Spence Logistics main logistics complex.
  • Welisara – Logilink, the state-of-the-art Container Freight Station (CFS).
  • Katunayake – Ace Container Terminals, the exclusive logistics facility at the Katunayake  Export Processing Zone (EPZ).

All our weighbridges are calibrated and certified by the Director General of Merchant Shipping to issue Verified Gross Mass (VGM) certificates required for export containers that are to be loaded onboard ships.

The facilities comply with industry standards and have a maximum weighing capacity of 50 Tons with the ability to weigh 20’ and 40’ containers, lorries, low beds, tankers, and equally small units such as three-wheelers and tractors.

VGM Certification for Export Containers

The declaration of Verified Gross Mass (VGM), the combined weight of the container tare weight and weight of all cargo, including all packaging and dunnage, helps ensure the safety of container vessels, improves vessel stability, and prevents potential maritime accidents.
